AiroAV Writes: A chef, an architect and an escape room designer walk into…

What do an escape room designer, a chef and an architect have in common?

They’re all speaking at the 32nd annual Lake Superior Design Retreat. The weekend-long, interdisciplinary design conference kicks off Feb. 28-29 at Fitger’s Inn.

Architect and author Francis D.K. Ching is among this year’s speakers, along with blacksmith Matt Jenkins of Cloverdale Forge; Duluth installation artist Kathy McTavish; escape room designers and engineers Jamie Fassett-Carman and Mark Larson of Trapped Puzzle Rooms; 3-D printer and researcher Kevin Johnson; and chef Lucia Watson.

Expect “a puzzle experience,” a viewing of documentary “The Cardboard Bernini” and more.

Registration is $220 per person, and $120 for ages 12-18. It covers two days of programming, Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast.

Along with architects, past speakers have included a toy designer, a playwright, an inventor, a sculptor. The event is sponsored by the American Institute of Architects Minnesota, a chapter of AIA National behind magazine Architecture MN and a registered provider with the AIA Continuing Education System.
